Over 2,000 years ago, a star – brighter and more beautiful than any other star in the night sky – appeared over the small town of Bethlehem.
God hung this star in the heavens to announce the arrival of His son. This sign of His favour and love has endured throughout the centuries. In a year filled with uncertainty and unrest, one thing has remained constant. That star, blazing in the heavens, signified to the world that HOPE had arrived – and today, we continue to share HOPE by fighting Hunger, Caring for orphans, decreasing Poverty and providing Education.
This past August, we received a baby girl who had been named “Usiphile Favour.” In siSwati, Usiphile means “He has sent us,” so her name literally translated means “He has sent us Favour.” Isaiah 61 speaks of the call upon God’s people “to preach good news to the poor, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners . . . to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour!” As we approach the end of 2020, His favour is needed, more than ever. Newspapers in Eswatini are filled with stories of girls getting pregnant; one recent article talked about as many as 30 teenaged girls who had become pregnant in a nearby community. Due to the lockdown throughout the country, schools – where they could usually get at least one meal a day – are closed. Starving and desperate, they are having sex for food, and we expect a wave of abandoned babies just like Favour in the early part of next year.
Will you help us be ready to rescue those babies, and make sure they have a home?
Join us in celebrating His favour by sharing HOPE through your year-end gift to Heart for Africa!
